Keep the Faith - - Do Not Despair Yes, the Spindle is down... Yes, it was cut down in the dark of night... Yes, nobody wanted to buy it... but all is not lost. The Saving of the Spindle, the rebirth of the Spindle is a series of events, the first of which is taking it down. The plans for the Plaza have included a new building right at the Spindle's location for at least 3 years. If you were going to remodel the interior of your home and your favorite piece of art was in the way, you would not think twice about moving it so changes could be made. The owners needed to rebuild the Plaza, the Spindle needed to be moved. It had to come down in order to be rebuilt in a new location. The owners have never said they will NOT rebuild it. They have talked about the money it will take, how they don't know if they can or will, but they have never said NO. The bottom 6 cars were rusted hulks when they were pulled from the junkyard 20 years ago and were not salvagable. They needed to be replaced years ago. They had to go. The Spindle needed to be rebuilt more than just saved. They saved the top two cars, one reportedly a favorite of the artist Dustin Shuler and the other once owned by the original Plaza owner and art aficionado, David Bermant. The others were junked on the spot, but these two were saved.. for what? For the rebirth of the Spindle ... Keep the Faith, do not despair. We will continue to lobby and fight for the ultimate rebuilding of the Spindle. It will be a long journey, but we belive in the vision of a new Spindle, right there in Cermak Plaza. Keep the Faith...stay tuned. |
